It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

It’s the hap, happiest season of all

With the kids jingle belling

and everyone telling

you be of good cheer!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

Well, wait a minute.  Just what makes this the most wonderful time of the year?

Is it the presents you’ll receive?  Is it the special and delicious food you’ll eat?  Is it parties you’ll attend?  Is it vacation from school?  Is it snow?  What actually makes this a wonderful time of the year?

Years ago a movie was made that has become a classic at Christmas time.  It’s called It’s a Wonderful Life and is about a man named George Baily who didn’t realize just how wonderful his life was.

George learns that one life touches many through all the ways we help people. That’s what makes our lives wonderful: touching other lives, helping others.
This Advent, use your wonderful life to bless others. Here is a digital Advent calendar to help you spread love, hope, joy, and peace. Click on each day from now until Christmas for a reflection and a “microchallenge”, a small way you can take action to bring love, hope, joy, and peace to others. Even though the Advent Calendar is a Christian tradition used at Christmas time, any one of any faith can use it to help spread love, hope, joy, and peace…..to help others and yourself to live a wonderful life.
Report back here to let us know how you are creating and enjoying the most wonderful time of the year!

  1. I love Christmas time because I get to spend time with friends and family. I think creating a nice, cozy, home with your loved ones and giving true gifts from the heart are what matter and what are important to the holidays. So many people thank that the holidays are all about getting gifts from others, eating food, and good deals on everyday items. I enjoy Christmas because I think of it as a time to give, not get. How are you going to use the gifts of giving and loving this holiday season? DIA

  2. Hi Mrs.Donofrio
Every year at Christmas, my family and I watch It’s a Wonderful Life. The movie, not only is it a great classic for the holiday season, reminds us that God and his angels are always looking out for us. When Christmas day is finally here my dad and me usually go to a nursing home and saying hi to many of the seniors living there. Most of the time this holiday greeting will be the only gift that they receive for Christmas, so they treasure it. This year hopefully my whole family might go there, maybe even bring gifts for them. It’s remarkable that a little “Merry Christmas” will bring joy to those seniors in that nursing home. That joy they express is more than I do when I get a huge Christmas present. Are you going to go anywhere this Christmas to spread the holiday spirit?

  3. Hi Mrs.Donofrio!
I think that people’s opinions about what their favorite thing about Christmas is different for each person. Mostly it’s what they remember about Christmas, the memories they share with their friends and family.
One of my favorite traditions during Christmastime is watching a Christmas Carol with my family. Another one of my favorite traditions is we open one present on Christmas Eve. To me its wonderful when my family gets together around the tree and decorates it. When we light up the lights I get this spectacular feeling. What is your favorite tradition or memory during Christmastime?

  4. Hi Katie,
My favorite tradition at Christmas time is when we go and get our Christmas tree we play hide and go seek. One time we went to get a tree and the man had just got a shipment in and there was snow on the trees! It was so cool. My family also just started a tradition called the sparkle box. It’s for Jesus’ birthday, and what you do is you take a box and every time you do something good you write it down on a sheet of paper and put it in the box. On Christmas Day as a family you open the box and offer up all the good things you’ve done for Jesus’ birthday. Do you have a sparkle box? MERRY CHRISTMAS!
